Jackets and Bumper Stickers

Thanks for your input regarding the cost of the jackets. It seems like $60 would be a fair and reasonable price for the jackets. We will take some photos in the next couple of weeks and publish prices on the forum.

With regards the bumper stickers (we are now in possession of 250 of them!) as minuted, we will send out to members upon renewal and sell some as "merchandise". Base cost is $1.50, and we suggest we sell extra for $2.00 and this will help pay for the overall costs. I'm sure most members would want a second sticker for their trailer / vehicle so we should have no problem selling these. And yes, Andrew, we will try to keep our profits under $50k for this coming year... ha ha

As mentioned previously, I cannot support a 64% mark up on the Jackets.
If they cost us $50, then $60 would be OK - it is the mark up that I have concerns with.

What do we want - less ASSA merchanise out there and a few extra dollars in the bank or the ASSA name out there and a few less dollars in the bank.

I believe at this stage of ASSA - it would be best to have MORE ASSA logo's out there.

Consider also that we have a number of Family members - and if price is reasonable, we may be able to sell 2. I would have concerns that at $60, this may not happen.

There is only a 33% markup on Stickers and this does seem reasonable. But I did not think we were going to sell the excess stickers. Thought they were going to be kept for future renewals. I thought we were going to look at doing set of other stickers that could be sold.
Question -- how many stickers are given to members --- 1 for single membership. Then 1 or 2 for Family membership??

Thanks for your response on the cost of the jackets and bumper stickers. I must say, I don't agree with anything you have commented on.

Had the jackets cost us $50 and you say $10 profit in fine, then please remember that these jackets were bought VERY CHEAP considering the quality of them. They were purchased at end-of-season run-out stock. You cannot buy a jacket of that quality for $60 - if you can, I'd like to know where...

If people are happy to buy the jackets at $60 then the profit on that goes towards buying more merchandise and not draining ASSA funds. To me, that is the object of Merchandise - self-funding.

It would seem that most of the responses to the original question, agreed that $60 was reasonable. I have asked the NC their opinions and I've also asked around and $60 is a VERY good price!

You mention a family membership and they may want 2 jackets (ie $120) - that is very cheap for 2 jackets.

Regarding the bumper stickers, I don't recall saying we would keep this batch solely to hand out "FREE" to members. We did say we would hold some back for future membership renewals, but also sell some if people wanted them. I do recall discussions about not putting dates or such on the bumper stickers because that limits their life. I wasn't asked to get quotes at this time for other types of stickers - although it was discussed, it was agreed that we would talk about it later on and that we needed to get the basics right first.

To me, it would seem that if merchandising can be self-funding, it can only be good for any organisation and as such I don't really think there is a problem.
